Swimming Pool Maintenance: What It Actually Entails

Privately owned swimming pools have arrived on the scene with a bang, and they have no intention of leaving anytime soon. Over the years, swimming pool ideas and designs have grown increasingly complex and eccentric. But, many people whoown a swimming pool pay little to no attention to the way a pool should be maintained.

Which pools are easiest to clean?

It really depends on a number of factors. First off, inground rectangular-shaped pools are by far the easiest to clean. This is because they have all the right edges and a perfectly smooth surface, which gets little to no dirt buildup. 

You could simply drain a pool, get inside, and use basically any cleaning utensil at your disposal, and you should be fine. Most of them are made from a concrete base that has tiling on top of it. And tiles, as we all know, are very, very durable and can withstand even the most abrasive cleaning agents. Just remember to not go overboard, since they usually do not require that much cleaning, as they do maintenance.

Secondly, most other differently-shaped pools are usually smaller in size. They have a lot of curves and bends and hard-to-reach places. They are a little trickier, but it’s not anything that a power washer won’t clean.

Thirdly, above-ground pools are usually the smallest in size. Yes, there are a few enormous ones, but they are, in most cases, impractical and people don’t usually own them. From a strictly cleaning aspect, they are by far the hardest to clean. No matter what you place underneath them to protect them, they are on the surface and will eventually end up getting dirty even on the bottom. 

Once autumn comes around, you’ll have to store them until next summer.  Due to their size and the creases and flaps that form, they are a pain to clean.

Are inground pools easier to maintain?

Well, the answer is yes and no. Inground swimming pools are built to last. So, once built, they are quite durable, and weather elements do little to them. However, this is only the case if they are properly installed.

Even though it may sound complicated, all of the little components that go into the complete inground pool system are quite easily replaceable. Like the pool itself, the system is built to last, so if you own a newly-built swimming pool, you shouldn’t worry. 

However, the main drawback is that when something fails, it can be hard to replace the broken part.  This especially goes for plumbing parts that now sit below a concrete patio or a wooden decking built on top of it

But, all of that is really not that bad, and an experienced contractor can fix almost most pool issues, even the worst ones, without much sweat.
